portugal
Portugal is one of our favorite European countries, which is why we have visited on three different occasions.
Often an overlooked country sitting East of Spain, Portugal has an abundant of outdoor activities to offer for everyone. Beautiful beaches, home grown wine, unique food, hiking and vibrant colored buildings, is just skimming the surface.
Our TRAVEL ROUTE
I am going to start by warning you that there will be one line you will see written numerous times throughout our Portuguese travel pages, and that is how in love we are with Portugal.
We have been fortunate to visit both of Portugal's major cities, Porto and Lisbon, on two different occasions and staying 4-5 days at each destination. Both stays included a day trip outside of the cities to help cement Portugal's brilliance away from the hustle and bustle.
This travel friendly country can be explored by foot, bike, bus, train and even surfboard. From the world famous Port wine produced in Douro Valley, to the beautiful renowned beaches, the fresh cuisine, pastel de nata's and most importantly the friendly locals; there is just so much to experience here in Portugal. This is only just touching the surface as to why we can't get enough of this amazing country. I truly hope you will be inspired to visit after looking at our Portuguese pages and blogs.

Language
Portuguese (not Spanish) - There are many Spanish words within the Portuguese language, but be careful as speaking the language is very different. It is said that the Portuguese can understand Spanish, but the Spanish can not always understand Portuguese. Do not let this fool you into believing you can get by speaking Spanish to the locals, they will most likely ignore you or at the very least be less than impressed.
You can easily get by with English in the major cities and dabble in a bit of Portuguese which the locals will love you for.

Best time to visit
Summer in Portugal is June - August which is the most beautiful time to enjoy the beaches and sun but can be tourist heavy.
September - November is Autumn and while slightly cooler it is still very much enjoyable and less tourist busy. We went in Autumn on both occasions.
